The report finds one in nine migratory bird species threatened with extinction and 45% of migratory species, including cuckoos, turtle doves and Arctic terns, in decline. It documents seven confirmed or suspected migratory bird extinctions over 150 years, including the slender-billed curlew declared extinct last year.
“Migratory birds are sentinels, and their declines reveal growing pressure on the natural systems that sustain us.”
