On a clear morning like Sept. 11, 2001, firefighters gathered at Navy Pier for a memorial ceremony. Attendees included seasoned firefighters who had traveled to New York in 2001 to search the Twin Towers rubble, alongside younger members too young to remember the attacks. Senator Dick Durbin and other dignitaries participated.
“Chicagoans woke to a clear blue sky and a light fall breeze Friday, just as they did 25 years ago.”
