I bought a used EV 2.5 years ago. Best decision I ever made. I can brass this out. Drove my Xterra 4x4 to get some bags of water softener salt. Second time its been on the road since this war started—used only when needed.

I remember those days. Gas was rationed (you could only buy on certain days), lines at the pumps were really long, and locking gas caps were common because thieves would siphon gas out of your tank.

$6.79 is cheap compared to Europe, and they survive. Americans are addicted to cheap gas, but you want to address climate change, don't you? I worked to feed that addiction, but it's time to seek help and get off it. More expensive gas helps with that because people will find ways to drive less.

Hello from England. Cost £100 to fill my mid-sized family car @ the weekend. First time in my life I’ve gone over £100. We’re paying about £7.50 a gallon - we get it sold in litres so it’s looks cheaper (about 170p a litre or so). But we’ve had expensive petrol for years, $6.79 must be killing you.

Yeah... I was just looking at a neat little hatchback that's selling new for $20k-ish. Five years ago, or maybe even two years ago, I would have gone for it even though it's a gas engine. But the way things are going, gas prices put it over my limit for cost of ownership. :/

Fortunately, in my last job I was 100% remote, so no commute! That was the best job benefit ever, not to mention saving all that gas. And yes - climate change is an existential problem right now. Planning to get an EV, and we have ~20kW of solar to charge it 😀

I bought petrol on my way to Heathrow before I went to Madrid a week ago & it was $7 per gallon & when I got back & driving home it is now $8.14 per gallon (in UK & converting litres to gallons) 😬

$.99 gas was definitely a thing up through the late 90s, and possibly into the new millennia. In my mid-40's now so I had just started driving. I was also paid, I think, $5.25/hr @ 16. Graveyard shift. Fed min was $5.15 maybe? The fact that the fed min today is only $2 more is completely insane.

I got rid of all 3 of my cars during Covid. Best decision that I ever made. No car notes, no car insurance and no over-priced gas cost. Also a lot of you voted for this. So here we are.
