  Sequestering a jury is also a risk for tainting the jury as well and is why it's only done if absolutely necessary. There's not many people who are going to be willing to spend weeks away from their kids/home, and by the end you might have some that just vote whichever way everyone else does to get out of the isolation to get back to their lives…

  I saw an interview with the head juror and he said that this juror refused to give any arguments for his position and had some bizarre behavior. That's the whole resson why there is controversy about it at all. It seems like him holding out isn't because he doesn't believe the insanity claim. He seems to just not want her to get off with a lighter…
