Europe's clean air policies unintentionally amplify climate warming

Analysis reveals Europe is the fastest-warming continent, partly due to proximity to the Arctic but also because reduced atmospheric particulate matter from clean air policies—while benefiting public health—has removed solar reflectivity that once masked climate warming signals. Europe suffered multiple heat waves killing more than 25,000 people in 2026; seven of the top ten most unusually hot countries globally were European.
“As we clean up our industrial processes and we have less aerosols in the atmosphere, which is the case in much of Europe, we're unmasking that climate signal. Europe's experiencing more of the full brunt of climate change because of that.”

The climate crisis is a disability issue. "Europe has been suffering under one heat wave after another, which have killed more than 25,000 people this year... Extreme heat on its own can cause health problems, but it can also exacerbate a lot of underlying health conditions." https:// grist.org/extreme-heat/yes-thi…
