Todd left (was booted? I dunno) and went to JPM. There was a point not that long ago where it was clear in a 13f that what Todd was responsible for in the portfolio was sold off. It feels like Greg Abel is currently managing the majority of the investments, with Ted continuing for the time being to manage a small piece. The Todd/Ted era really…

Buffett has been planning this since at least 2011:CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Warren Buffett has told the CBS News program "60 Minutes" that after he dies, he wants his son to become non-executive chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Howard Buffett, a farmer with no college degree, would be a good successor, the elder Buffett said, because he understands…

Warren knows it's about to all come crashing down and wants to get outta Dodge before that mess. I don't think there will be any major changes to procedure until after he kicks. Even then they'll be slow in coming. Buffet had a plan that worked and it will take a couple of years for Abel to get cocky and try to test it. The shareholders will be…

I guess Warren’s quote only applies to other people, not him. "It’s like choosing the 2020 Olympic team by picking the eldest sons of the gold-medal winners in the 2000 Olympics." (

Business as usual. Most of the times, people think a person is bigger than the company but rarely it is true. Steve jobs left Apple and yet the company continued on its track of staggering growth. Bill Gates left Microsoft and it is still as strong as a mountain. Unlike if the company is a meme stock tied to a swagger personality like Elon Musk…

Best wishes and all. But given Berkshire's scale, and the son's age (71), questions about the next succession plan seem appropriate. Also, since the NYT says nothing else about the son: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Graham_Buffett In context, his recent involvement in local politics seems rather odd.

Steve Jobs died, and no they didn’t the first time when he was forced out and fired , they almost went bankrupt. I’d argue Jobs is the prime example of the importance of an individual. all of their success post death was built on products he designed. Name something truly innovative Apple has created since Jobs death? It attest to how much he was…

While I liked your comment enough to upvote, I then realized that Chairman isn't an operational position. It's more a position where the person can exercise ownership of a company (to put it in layman terms). In your analogy he wouldn't be the athlete, more like the person who gets the winning money (assuming his son also has shares) and chooses…

If you replace one competent CEO with another like Apple and Amazon did then business as usual. If you replace a good CEO with a bad CEO or a bad CEO with a good CEO you'll understand why CEO's get paid the big money. See stock performance of Steve balmers years compared to Steve jobs and current CEO. See Starbucks, jc penny, general electric

If BRK holds AAPL shares and BRK is trading at such a discount that $500 BRK gets you $600 worth of AAPL exposure, at some point BRK itself is going to take advantage of the value play and issue buybacks to close that 20% discount gap. Put very, very simply .

Sat on a couple of boards and the non exec chair mostly just guards the culture and can fire the CEO. Abel runs the business. That's a very different job from Howard's.
