On Hacker News and Reddit, users argued over whether handing the chairmanship to a family member is sound governance or nepotism, citing Buffett's own past comments against inherited leadership and Howard's age of 71.
“Today, as Warren steps down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, I am thinking about his lasting impact. Warren believed in Apple before anyone else, and we will never forget it. Thank you Warren and congratulations to Howard, who will be a wonderful chairman.”

If you know how to ask Chatgpt it tells you that BRKB did quite well when markets were down. Also keep in mind they now have a massive allocation in treasuries which will be less down when everything is down this time around. And given their treasury position is very short dated they don't have long duration exposure. Most importantly - for the…

You'd have to go back to 1993 for BRK.A (B didn't even exist then!) to beat the S&P on a continuous timeline on a nominal and risk adjusted basis. Especially now that the once in a lifetime investor is gone, you'd be much better off just buying the S$P

To anyone who owns BRK-B shares (or BRK-A if you have that kind of money), over the next decade your money will likely grow on par with if not at a slightly higher rate than keeping it in an S&P 500 Index fund. Regardless of board or management changes. This'll stay a good long term bet.

Yup, Berk is heavily invested in Oil and shipping companies (bad economy is not good for them) and now also in Tech with Google. It's just going to drop slightly less than the market. Only Geico might save them in a bad economy

This is a position on the board. The Buffett estate gets an important board role because it represents their family’s large stake. Choosing someone in the family is consistent with this structure. The article you’re picking the quote from is about estate taxes.

Pretty much, and the Chinese manufacturers have become the most innovative in the mobile handset market since then. Talk about the student becoming the master.

A legend through early 2000s. The game changed starting 2013-14 and he never adjusted. Bailed or undervalued a bunch of tech names that could have yield 2-3x his actual return. Recent example is them bailing on TSM because of Chinese invasion fears.

BRK is a defensive stock. My license plate frame states - In Berkshire Hathaway i Trust. Shareholder since the 90’s. Buy and hold.

Berkshire HQ has exactly 27 people. so I think those comments about culture are spot on. but the issue of "what would walt/steve/warren do?" will eventually bite you in the ass.

It’s an example. If you were to value their holdings separately, they would be worth more than the market cap of the company.
