BSW-Solar study finds battery storage can unlock 150 GW solar capacity

The Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft (BSW-Solar) released findings from Fraunhofer IEE showing that intelligently-controlled battery storage at substations could enable grids to accommodate up to 150 GW of additional solar capacity—more than current German installed PV capacity of 130 GW. The study analyzed real operating data from 20 transformers across 13 substations and modeled potential with large-scale battery storage.
