There's also the matter of needing to send 140 million people to Mars every 26 months during it's optimal launch window just to kept the population of Earth stable. Hard to imagine sending the resources needed never mind the people without bankrupting the planet. One global lifeboat; Earth.

The idea of colonizing Mars (or even visiting it) is a science fiction fantasy. I grew up in the 60s, and saw 2001: A Space Odyssey at age 7. I understand the appeal of the fantasy as much as anyone. But you may as well fantasize about colonizing the surface of the sun.

People's brains break when they become morbidly rich. Having the money to do or have anything makes them believe any idea they have is possible no matter how outrageous it is. Rich people see no limits or consequences so they believe anything is possible as long as there's enough money.

Similar to the big problem with colonizing the Moon. Lunar dust from the soil is dangerous as hell. Robotics can do the science just fine. Humans don't need to pollute the places.
