If it can reassure you: the french canadian news just found that the "writer" had a past a plagiarism going back at least 10 years. I have actually never seen other accusation of IA use against a french authors this strong before, and they seem to be actually provable here. I think all legit authors will be ok.

Do you imagine a short draft of an essay on an unknown topic written in a pressured environment would be comparable to a finished, published work? Which has gone through multiple rounds of redrafting, self-editing, structural edits, copy edits and proof reads?

Authors should start saving all of their drafts and notes to prove they didn't use AI. Otherwise it eventually might become impossible to tell the difference between legit work and AI-generated.
