The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement Thursday saying officers discontinued the enforcement action for public safety and were about a half-mile away when they saw smoke and found the crashed, burning vehicle; it said officers tried to help Juarez and put out the fire before local first responders arrived.
“In the interest of public safety, ICE officers immediately discontinued the enforcement action.”
