An investigation finds that Microsoft, despite a "good neighbor" campaign promising local investment, has capped its commitment to the Granger data center area at $1 million in one-time donations. We Make Indiana, a nonpartisan coalition of 25 congregations and community organizations, views this as disproportionate to the tax savings Microsoft will receive.

I was interested to see if Microsoft would possibly entertain making a new kind of deal that could meaningfully benefit communities neighboring their data centers in the long-term. But then I found out Microsoft got really weird any time anyone asked about it.

I've driven by the 900 acre data center project in Granger..it's a monstrosity and I'm absolutely not surprised that Microsoft is cheaping out on community financial support.

I'm in favor of having giant businesses contribute financially to community health, but we already have a mechanism for it called "taxes," and we already have a board that can oversee it called "city council" (or your community's variant). We should use those first.
