Planetary sunshade study says space-based climate fix could be viable in 20–40 years

Planetary Sunshade Institute publishes detailed geoengineering analysis

The Planetary Sunshade Institute released what researchers call the most detailed analysis yet of space-based solar geoengineering. The report, funded by a £400,000 ARIA grant and summarizing work from engineers and climate scientists including those from NASA, estimates that a planetary sunshade could become viable to build in as few as 20–40 years, contingent on rapid development of heavy-lift rockets capable of hauling millions of tonnes of material to deep space.
