Industry body Water UK acknowledged performance was not good enough but argued more than half of pollution incidents resulted from blockages or vandalism outside company control. It attributed slow progress to tighter standards and committed to record investment through 2030, noting drinking water quality remained among the world's best.
“It will take time, but record investment will help secure water supplies, support growth, and end sewage entering rivers and seas.”
