Ars Technica reports that India contracted with US startup 247Solar to build a small 1-megawatt concentrated solar plant with a novel design: the same turbine hardware can run on either stored solar heat or fossil fuels during shortfalls, eliminating the need for separate backup facilities.
“Our systems are their own backup. During times of low solar resource—long duration, bad weather, whatever the case may be—they're able to burn a variety of fuels.”

This is a cool resilience idea: turning a solar thermal power generation facility into its own backup (plant design allows for running on stored solar heat or a fossil-fueled backup system). The well-known example of this kind of generation facility is on I-15 outside of Las Vegas (just past Primm, NV) https:// arstechnica.com/science/2026/1…
