The research team identified that a manganese compound called hausmannite, which formed around the blood cells, may have stabilised them and preserved collagen amino acids prior to fossilisation. The exceptional preservation likely resulted from the dinosaur being rapidly buried in a low-oxygen, microbially rich environment.
