Microsoft ships Windows 11 update to speed up 8GB RAM PCs

Microsoft details specific memory and speed savings

Microsoft outlines concrete gains: 2GB more active data kept in memory instead of paging to disk, up to 900MB less committed-memory growth across Windows, Edge, and Microsoft 365, 360MB saved across Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Outlook, Edge tabs sleeping after 15 minutes, widgets loading on demand, and Teams Efficiency Mode on by default; a 2026 8GB Dell XPS 13 is also shown outperforming a 2021 16GB model on some tasks.

“As a result, Windows can now keep up to 2 GB more of your active data in memory instead of moving it to slower storage, so an app or tab you left open is less likely to reload when you return”
