The EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service reported that August 2026 was the joint-warmest August and warmest month ever recorded, at 1.65°C above pre-industrial levels, tying July 2023, driven by climate change and a strong El Niño; the report also noted western Europe just had its warmest summer on record.
