Commentator Kara Swisher and researcher Timnit Gebru argue the extinction narrative distracts from real harms like autonomous weapons, and that blame belongs with company leaders and lax regulators, not the software itself.
“I think this idea that AI is going to kill us, it's not AI, it's the people making AI who are killing us.”

Kara Swisher: “I think this idea that AI is going to kill us, it’s not AI, it’s the people making AI who are killing us. Let’s stop blaming the machines. Let’s blame the people who are making these things and the administration that refuses to put any guardrails”

"Meanwhile, what’s really existential is AI powering autonomous weapons, killing machines, that are actually being used in warfare. The climate catastrophe is a real thing that could be exacerbated by what these tech companies are building. Bosses are using AI as an excuse to get rid of their pesky workers. This machine-god narrative is, in my…

Seems like a good idea considering every AI industry insider is screaming from the rooftops that things have changed, fast, and we're at risk of a potential extinction-level events.

We can push back successfully against AI. AI is NOT inevitable.

"Anthropic insider warns AI could ‘kill all humans’." Sure, great, thanks for the heads up. You know what is definitely is going to kill us all? Climate fucking change. Maybe we could be concerned more about that instead of some fevered nightmare of some incel tech lord buffoons.

Which then explains why he got so many exclusive interviews and PR deals so quickly, and expresses himself on TV so well...how? I'm an engineer myself. The day I had to do a piece in a local newspaper which included a social media clip about our launch, I was mired in drafts and redrafts, questions about how to present this or that, even though I…

the AI run store in SF. 10/10 for commitment to the bit, minus several million for the bit itself https://www. sfgate.com/local/article/san-f rancisco-market-ai-22424349.php > So when Coxon tells you that AI will kill us all soon, or Backlund claims that he’s trying to figure out how to make the tech nicer, I hear panic for their own checking…

Well a server and gpu requires power to compute, so that's a neccessity. They didn't go into detail about how internet access was restricted. It could have been a condition of the test that was simply ignored (most likely) or it could've been air gapped but was able to access a wifi-enabled device. I would assume mutiple servers were being used…

I’ve always been deeply troubled by Anthropic, so that’s not how I’d interpret what’s happening. When you start a company specifically because you believe AI could destroy everything and are very vocal about how you believe you are the only one who can save the world, you tend to hire people with a similar worldview. Dario didn’t leave OpenAI…

The narrative that # AI is either salvation or apocalypse is irrelevant and distracting and makes it harder to see, name, and stop what's actually already happening. The media should refocus and not obsess over a narrative shaped by AI labs and meant to distract. https:// dair-community.social/@emilymb ender/117250168245519857 AI is already a tool…

How are they different from Trump claims - we just move on to the next threat claim. The above was facetious, but my question are 1) "are we at risk of losing control to ai agents", 2) "what is this control that we are going to lose, and who owns it now" 3) "is there a subset of people for whom this control is valuable" and 4) "the others, should…

An Anthropic researcher publicly announced his resignation this week with a social media post saying his colleagues believe AI “could kill us all by the end of the decade.” Now, Dems are demanding action.

100% marketing. They are not content with the business market, they want that militairy money. I have been awake for two hours, on and off on reddit during breakfast and have seen 4 messages about anthropic's AI, that were related to warfare. All 4 issued by Anthropic.

If there were a 10% chance that AI could wipe out humanity, no responsible government would leave its development to companies racing to build it. Yet until recently, that seemed to be the case. The warning was all the more ominous because it was made by a researcher at Anthropic, the trillion-dollar AI company behind the Claude chatbot. The…

There are plenty of crazy people willing to do it, but these people are proactively protected such that even getting a shot (pun intended) at any kind of retribution is nigh impossible.

# AI More than extinction, Marcus said he worried about the “risk of catastrophe” from “from AI-generated pathogens, from wars started or escalated by AI-generated disinformation, from hacks that destroy critical infrastructure, and so on. Nothing I have seen gives any indication that any of that is under control”. In general, the more senior the…

This Jacob Coxon situation smells like a fucking psy-op. No fucking way WaPo has an article ready to publish 20min after the tweet from some random dude at Anthropic.

If you read the new Anthropic report about malicious use of Claude, ask yourself: "What's missing here?" The answer, by their own report's admission, is anything like real impact—all of which is "inferred." We don't know, but can guess, the ultimate efficacy. https://www. anthropic.com/threat-intellige nce-report-september-2026
