Following Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's essay urging AI firms to slow capability improvements, Altman said OpenAI has been discussing the same idea internally and that leading AI companies may be near a pact to slow development and coordinate on safety.
“I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks.”

BREAKING: Sam Altman says OpenAI will not go public this year due to safety concerns around AI. "I actually think that, given everything happening with safety, right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public, and we don't feel pressure on that," Altman said.

Wall Street was poised for a massive OpenAI IPO by the end of the year—but the CEO says that’s not happening.

You hit the nail on the head. They're trying to throw people off the fact that their path to profitability is getting harder and harder to believe. Several tech companies are already scaling back their AI coding budgets because the current top US models are very expensive. And OpenAI is far from profitable despite that. They're caught between a…

Companies that plan to go public don't push back their IPO dates if things are going well. It's a universal sign that the finances aren't in order when a company pushes back its IPO multiple times.OpenAI and Anthropic are barely profitable on a "unit" basis when ignoring the costs of marketing and other COSS expenses. They're definitely not…

'This' cried out the terminally online and witless Redditor excitedly. Sadly, with not an original thought in their head yet who desperately wants to contribute to the discourse, the upvote button is not enough for this specimen, they are too self-important and need the community to SEE and KNOW of their vigorous agreement. They momentarily see…

It's a great discussion, but not one that I think applies to AI startups. Valve's business model takes the traditional path where profit is generated by selling a product and growing from there. Modern Startups now take large sums of upfront funding, trading them for equity to hopefully reach profitability. Going public becomes a pressure from…

That’s when you would take security concerns seriously? When local city council members recognize the threat and have gathered enough local support to attempt regulation in your town? I think that would basically mean you are the last person to get on the bandwagon. I also think a local group would be woefully inadequate in dealing with an…

Prices are moving inference to highly profitable, oAI seems to have solved their training problems, and they're currently competing nicely with Anthropic on the coding side. I'd wait, too -- why fight this stuff out in public when you can stay private and have your big competitor deal with all the public company concerns? There's plenty of capital…

Sam Altman told me yesterday there will be no IPO for OpenAI in 2026, that it would be “ill timed” given all they have to work on with alignment, control and safety

USING NVIDIA CHIPS = LOSING MONEY Anthropic has twice higher revenue than OpenAI, because Anthropic immediately recognized how slow the calculators of Jensen Scam are and moved to 70% TPU and Trainium. Apple left NVIDIA and is now the best performer in 2026. Spending trillions for NVIDIA AI Chips annually will NEVER be profitable.

Given that they paused signups for their 20x Max plan, your assessment seems overoptimistic.Their new Broadcom chips seem cool, and they had a nice model release with Astra. But, that doesn't mean they've solved the profitability question during an era of rapidfire open-weight model releases, extreme memory shortages, and intense political…

Reddit if IPO happens next year: He doesn't really want to go public because their revenue growth, user growth, and profitability sucks lmao. Reddit if IPO happens now: They can’t keep raising money is the real problem lol. These companies are so unprofitable and private equity is begging them to go public so they can cash out.

I like Gaben's take on going public. This is a clip from a longer talk he gave which I think is really insightful into many aspects of the economics of software and company culture.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says 2026 would be an “ill-advised” time to take the company public. He also made clear an IPO isn't something he is looking to pursue this year.

Altman being concerned about the ethics of AI!?!? Bro this is the same man who signed service agreements with the Department of War after only 1 weekend of negotiations 😂😂 Those financial statements must be absolutely rotten.

The time to go public was about 16 months ago. People are waking up to large bills now, Chinese models are nipping at their heels, public sentiment has turned, money is becoming more expensive. The market no longer cares about fundamentals, corporate structure, controls etc.Too slow by my judgment.
