Across Hacker News and Reddit, many commenters argued the IPO delay reflects unresolved profitability and competitive problems rather than genuine safety caution, while others called the strategic delay reasonable.

OpenAI IPO won’t happen this year (or next year, or the year after) because all their executives are bailing out and they have no new ideas and no runway to profitability with the old ones. https://www. theguardian.com/us-news/2026/s ep/12/openai-delays-ipo-sam-altman-ai-safety-concerns (Sam Altman is an inveterate liar, no need to listen to the…

Acceleration is only visible in benchmark scores and articles released by AI labs that are border line fear mongering (Anthropic called open source models threat to world) Real world adoption has accelerated in past but businesses are introducing token budgets and choosing cheaper open source models where they can. 📉 OpenAI IPO Update OpenAI has filed confidentially for an IPO. However, Sam Altman confirmed it will not go public in 2026 due to safety concerns. The company plans to wait until conditions are favorable.

This may be this year's second-best news for SF housing costs (passing Prop I will be the first). https://www. theguardian.com/us-news/2026/s ep/12/openai-delays-ipo-sam-altman-ai-safety-concerns

And it's not even that, here. Like, they're just saying 'if they did one thing, you'd explain it one way, and if they did another thing instead, you'd explain it a different way!' Well of course! We're just positing what might explain behaviors. Two different behaviors would require two different explanations. 'Oh if he ordered a chicken sandwich…

I think the latest harness and model did tore a whole through internet and cloud security zero days. But rest of the floating hypothesis on where the current state things are is not as certain to me as many others imply here. I am not sure whether that's a good thing for the stock or not. I the think companies want to stay private longer to reduce…

Bait and switch, they're delaying IPO cause their finances are a burning dumpster fire https://www. axios.com/2026/09/12/openai-pu blic-ipo-delay-sam-altman

Honestly thats not so bad if you take a look at what Spacex is doing. However, if you add all of these sector losses together it is mind boggling. Then the worldwide losses on top. When you paint the big picture it all leads to huge money printing to keep the sector afloat. Capital will otherwise start to move into the lending side with interest…

Token maxxing peaked in July. August usage and spend appears to be down among largest AI using companies. Everyone wants to focus on cost-efficiency now. Anthropic is going public just before a downtrend in usage and pricing becomes obvious. It's going to be far harder for OpenAI in 2027 if they do delay until then. I have zero belief that Altman…

And the product that is supposed to be sold at a huge margin to pay the loans is being outsourced for free a month after release. And the margin from selling said product which is supposed to go to pay the loans actually has to go to train the next model instead. Oh wait these two problems are solved by this “letter” since it calls for less model…

We need proper AI regulations and safety rails. Anyone that has read the hugging face breach should be alarmed of the capabilities that LLMs have. They can and will be used maliciously, by individuals or governments alike. The people like Altman, Zuckerberg and Pichai are happy to use AI models to disrupt and potentially ruin our lives for the…

>he ipos hah i was right all long! this ai stuff was all hype for shareholders! >he delays ipo hah! did it again reddit! ai has hit a wall and they desperately need to come up with something to keep the bubble going! >he cancels ipo hah, see the billionaires are keeping everything to themselves and don’t want the public to have access!

And how do you stay competitive with China? Or are they magically going to be aligned in all the slow down? This is bullshit hype PR. It may be true, that there are safety concerns, but this is the new atomic bomb. Whoever controls the most powerful AI has the most power. Power is all the leaders care about.

lets circle back by end of year! btw i have no stake in nvda, i’m basically 90% full port into $GH since march 2025. i just thought it was funny that i’ve been seeing you bash AI and nvidia for 3 months straight while both the market and nvda flirt with all time highs good luck on your short!

And that agreement looks even worse for their ethics when you know that Anthropic got dropped by the government after objecting to their AI being used to decide if drones should kill people or not, and using their AI to illegally spy on Americans.

jesus christ -7 karma for that reddit is so out of touch with AI it's unbelievable... I mean it makes sense considering they constantly talk to LLM posters and LLM commenters without noticing, but still it surprises me every day.

Did you really fish my comments without proving anything? I don’t have bags. I went short on $234 and now I’m up 12% by selling at $217. Good luck holding the bags! Just don’t forget - the chip competition is getting very HOT!
-
well you've been posting nonstop nvidia bearish comments since june https://gyazo.com/efb66134365357a30727e2a321f63c1c?token=56b840f31d98279f18dceba055210e1d and nvidia's been up 7% since then...how deep are YOUR bags?

Chinese models can be adopted at an accelerated rate while OpenAI and Anthropic are maxing out their hardware supply. Both can be true at the same time. In our own company, we must be doubling tokens every month.
-
That doesn’t prove the progress has been accelerating over the past 12 years at all… that only proves progress the first derivative not the second derivative. You need more evidence to prove the 2nd derivative

Their financials must be pretty bad to go public, it’s all I read into this. They probably should go sooner rather than later, the longer they wait, sometimes the market is just not there anymore.
-
This is it. It’s not even the goomba fallacy that’s the issue. People will have different speculative explanations depending on what OpenAI ends up doing. That’s sort of how speculation works.
