Time-restricted eating slows early Huntington's disease, OHSU study finds

Study design addressed safety concerns about weight loss in Huntington's patients

Researchers had initially been uncertain whether intermittent fasting would be safe because unintended weight loss is already a concern for many Huntington's patients. The 20-study participants were encouraged to maintain normal calorie intake, and researchers closely monitored weight throughout; participants maintained both body weight and lean muscle mass.

“Weight loss is a major challenge for many people with Huntington's disease, so asking them to eat within a limited time window seemed counterintuitive. What was exciting about this study is that participants were able to maintain their weight while showing signs that the intervention may be positively affecting the disease itself.”
