I think it's a case of "the strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must". Denmark is simply much smaller and weaker than the US, especially in terms of military power. And the support for Denmark from its allies has been quite lacklustre so far IMO. For example, I'm in the Netherlands. To be frank I'm not sure that many people here…

Why? You could just pay everyone unemployed benefits from the money instead of salaries. The one primarily missing out would be contractors. Or you could start pumping the money into useful things, like infrastructure, education etc. creating jobs that don't require people to blow up schools on the Middle East.

If those rumours are true, that’s a pretty dumb move by Greenland’s government. Everyone knows: give Trump an inch and he’ll take a mile. He’s not gonna stop at some veto power, he’ll just keep beefing up the US military presence until he starts calling the place a US territory. And who’s really gonna stop him?

It's dark half the year, the environment is hostile and can easily kill you, there's nothing to do, nothing to see, and nobody to talk to. I wouldn't call that a safe environment, personally. I imagine it's pretty hard to keep personnel from killing themselves out of boredom and depression.
