The Climate Impact Lab's updated El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker projects roughly 372,900 additional deaths over the next six months on top of the 484,500 already recorded, with Nigeria (56,000), India (55,000) and Indonesia (29,000) among the hardest-hit countries.
“Our research puts new forecasting capabilities to work to answer one of the most urgent questions we face: where is extreme heat likely to cost lives?”
