Just hit @reuters.com wire: US OFFICIALS WARN OF 'ONGOING CYBER THREAT' TO INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS
-
Perhaps this is not quite the point you had intended to make, but I really am mystified at all of the explanations for why internet-connected freezers and refrigerators are being used. When people ask, "Why are they connected to the internet?" I don't think they're literally communicating that they don't know and want someone to tell them. I think…

When will regulators begin punitively fining the grocery companies that left their freezers so unsecured that this could happen?Like, make their underinvestment in decent IT so expensive via fines that it is cheaper for them to just provision a sufficiently effective division within their company.

Do you guys not get the impression that this is just a slightly overly forceful jab in the sparring match we’ve been in with Russ for the last few decades? Like even an inconsequential jab would be celebrated so maybe the motivation is just that and not to test the waters for a catastrophic blow? Considering our current global political…

Supermarket freezers across Europe are being targeted by hackers, spoiling millions of euros worth of food. But the story is much bigger than ruined products, even though that's terrible. Our food systems increasingly depend on interconnected technologies, from refrigeration and cold storage to logistics and inventory management. We're now finding…

We actually had freezers in stores back before the internet was widely used.People find it more convenient to network everything, but it isn't Necessary we're seeing the very predictable downside.

The only Muppet here is you. You've sent an entire word salad, just to prove a point and that point is that late stage capitalism is starting to eat itself up from over-optimisation. My POV has nothing to do with neo-socialism, but it's hard to explain to someone so 🧠 washed that not all critique of late stage capitalism, borderline techno…

The example I given was relevant as example how actual lock-in happens via software. The fact this hack allowed to mass-control the freezing units, and set defrost in loop remotely, for me looks as sign that fully-integrated solution is used. One of core component of vendor lock-in is "too much of proprietary software", which is more likely to…

I too believe it’s negligent, just not criminal. Updating software to fix vulnerabilities should be one of the primary functions of any IT department. Otherwise it’s a failed department. Of course another should be separation of networks. There’s just still way too many people in IT that thinks that internal network equals safe network. Which…

Are grocery stores so top down managed in other places? Usually there is a store manager who has based on chain varying but still a good bit of impact on the store, I don't think having a worker press 1 button at a store is that much of an extra hassle.

Yes, these should have not been on the open Internet. No, baddies should not have done this and ruined food. >> NPR: A new cold war: hackers target fridges across the globe https://www. npr.org/2026/11/03/nx-s1-60266 76/cold-war-hackers-fridges

Ah yes, Israel, the US, and China. Strategic enemies of Europe that would absolutely benefit from a French blood bank and Swedish supermarket losing its supply. C'mon dude you were given that big ol thinker for a reason.

Just go back to analog systems already. If you really need shit to be connected, make it monitor and alert only. The idea that you can remotely trigger a defrost function with no physical remote start button is insane.
