Democratic election winners and progressive lawmakers, emboldened by the midterm results, called for tougher federal limits on AI buildout, with some demanding an outright national data-center moratorium.

Meta warns that election backlash against data centres could make AI expansion harder https:// techcrunch.com/2026/11/05/meta s-warns-that-election-backlash-against-data-centers-could-make-ai-expansion-harder/ Oh good, and hopefully, it will bring Meta down too...

This election has transformed the landscape for AI buildouts, and that's not speculation on my part "Meta president Dina Powell McCormick said that the Democratic wins in the midterm elections are going to make it a lot harder for companies to build data centers"
-
So... Meta warns that the thing that everyone is investing in that doesn't make any money and is likely to destroy the economy and put people out of work, and that creates environmental and community hellholes that no one wants might... not have free reign to expand relentlessly and ruin communities? Cool. Now Dems, pass a law that requires that…

> Why aren’t the dot centers bribing the locals with infrastructure? It might be that they can't.Their prime goal is to power their own stuff, and for that they want something on-site and on-demand which they can push to 100% during a blackout and where they get first-dibs on the power. That limits the kinds of power-plant and their ability to…

Will the Mid-Terms (and the Democrats trouncing of Republicans) be the spark that (finally) ignites the petrol of an AI-driven financial crisis. If the Dems *do* slow down (or even halt, only temporarily) the build-out of data centres, the associated debt overhang is pretty quickly going to look unsustainable (as many already think it is). And…

We can finally say "elections have consequences" and mean something good. 💙 "Meta warns that election backlash against data centers could make AI expansion harder"

Okay so like an AI thing that helps us in some real way like combatting AI systems from compromising data, stopping interference from other governments, or coming up with medical solutions might be valuable for humanity and their CEO might have an opinion worth listening to. A meta AI that as I understand it makes stupid artworks of your photos or…

If you offer to add a bunch of offshore wind turbines or build a new nuclear plant, what happens? It's basically "address NIMBY opposition by doing something that incurs NIMBY opposition".The real problem is that politics has gotten so broken that people have lost the connection between building things and having them. You'll have the same people…

RE: https:// mastodon.me.uk/@ChrisMayLA6/11 7568021900913783 1) the people elected won't actually be power for two months. 2) if the mere hint of possible future oversight causes a sector meltdown, I suggest that it was just an unsustainable criminal conspiracy / pyramid scheme to start with and its demise was inevitable.

I do have a question to everyone who studied finance, Knows the importance of Index Funds/Etfs and is actively investing, What is the essence of stock picking? I have read these several books and by that i mean two.. And all i can see if a lot said against mutual funds managers and stock picking to an extent that Etfs investing is the way to go…

Why aren’t the dot centers bribing the locals with infrastructure? DC needs a GW of capacity? Build 3 GV, put 2 into the grid at low cost, build out transmission? It used to be standard that companies would build infrastructure along with their plants. Cities all across the US Midwest were built this way.

The midterm results were, in part, a popular revolt against data centers, the tech industry, the crazed oligarchs in tech leadership, and their gleefully anti-human version of AI development. Good read from @faineg.com@bsky.brid.gy RE:

I don't know if I'd claim it has leveled the playing field. It's basically the same as you getting 20 junior underlings to tell what to do. A lot of it is questionable, but works. If anything, the junior devs are the ones getting cut, because they can't understand if what the AI produced is something to keep, throw or iterate on. But soon enough…

I’m pro-AI. I use it all the time. I max out my $200 claude subscription and own a strix halo. The data center buildout makes no sense.I don’t want to work for a Trump lapdog, so MAGA++ recruiters can go pound sand.I don’t think SV leadership realizes how f—-ked they are.

Nearly 40 data center-related measures were on the ballot across the country on Tuesday. The tech industry took a loss in almost every. single. instance.

This is nothing more than fear in a very extended market. The King is dead and when the King dies there is chaos. The market doesn't like chaos. Yes, you can argue thst the previous King created chaos, but that chaos became predictable and the King was very pro markets. There are a lot of unknowns now and this is a "sell first and ask questions…

Watching @cnbc.com w/ super MAGA friend of Trump Joe Kernen having the data centers restrictions in election results completely wrong. “Out of 47 tracked local referendums, 45 communities voted to restrict data centers, 1 voted to allow construction, and 1 remains uncompleted.”

China has less than 500 data centers. Is China any less trustworthy than the billionaire American oligarchy that have proven time and time again they do not care about your health, wellbeing, society or personal data. To them you are just something to exploit for money. I think we can take some chances with China and not be any worse off.
