I really dislike this sentiment. Firstly, it’s wrong. If you are rich, privileged and docile, a member of the dominant ethic community, cis, straight and male, you are, in reality, safe. It allows people to exclude themselves by saying, actually, no they won’t: this is hyperbole and can be ignored. Secondly, it is an appeal to self-interest which…
