The type of AI definitely matters. Search engine AI is notoriously bad at medical queries. It hallucinates and misinterprets. And some of the nurses I work with treat it like gospel. It drives me nuts.

We recently had a doc tell us he didn't catch a serious error in his note because AI wrote it and he didn't have time to read it. Buddy, charting is part of your $400k salary.

But this system still bills at the same rate as if an actual doctor saw you with an actual team of nurses. So let's not discount the increased corporate profit from decreased labor costs at the expense of quality, it's a tradeoff we as a society are willing to make.

Sure, but by that point I wouldn’t call you a nurse anymore. You’re management now. It’s not like we call them Detective-Cops, just Detectives. Or Tech-Cops, just Techs.

It's not even the tokens imo, I think it's literally just that the productivity gains are significant, but smaller than advertised. Take software for instance. Yes, it significantly speeds up coding, but coding is only one part of a lot of things a software engineer needs to do. The idea that AI is replacing nurses is laughable.

The worst part is that movie takes place 500 years in the future. We're speed running it in a generation.

And there is a lot of dataset being accumulated to thing that I describe already. People's work on this. There a reasons why such are not implemented yet, but it is for sure closer to maturity than "decades".

No, in today's healthcare they are the middle managers handling all the Nurse's Assistants that do the majority of patient interactions that the Physician's Assistants ordered under the purview of the one actual doctor that the floor still keeps staffed.
