Apple's M6 chip arrives in 2nm process, outperforms AMD, Intel, Qualcomm
Notebookcheck testing shows Apple's first 2nm Mac chip delivers 25% single-core gains over M4 and 30% over Snapdragon X2 Elite.
What to know
- Apple's M6 is the first Mac chip built on 2nm process technology, appearing first in the Mac mini 2026.
- Notebookcheck testing shows 25% single-core performance gains over M4 and over 30% faster than Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme across Cinebench 2024 and Geekbench 6.
- The M6 features dual neural engines (up from one in M5) and a 12-core GPU while maintaining similar power efficiency to the M5 at around 30W multi-core TDP.
Windows will have viable alternatives with RTX Spark chips coming soon.

“The RTX Spark chips are about the launch for Windows machines. It won't be M6 level in a portable, but it should be a good chip option on Windows.”

Direct M6 vs. Snapdragon/Intel/AMD comparisons are misleading due to architectural differences.

“The thing is you comparing arm to x86 directly isn't really fair as they're both good at different things”

Notebookcheck M6 analysis highlights 25% single-core lead over M4
Notebookcheck's detailed testing shows the M6 achieves 25% single-core performance gains over M4 and 10% over M5 in Cinebench 2024 and Geekbench 6, with over 30% faster single-core performance than Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and over 70% faster than Intel Panther Lake and AMD Zen 5 chips.
“The new M6 is more than 30 % faster than the fastest Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme CPU and more than 70 % faster than Intel's Panther Lake CPUs as well as AMD's Zen 5 chips.”

I never said it's about performance, you just misunderstood. Is it true or not that you can boot Linux on them? Or BeOS, or FreeBSD or whatever OS I can design tomorrow? Or is it true that Apple doesn't want you to not run MacOS on them? You can technically run anything with virtualization, but you cannot not use MacOS, which is closed source.
