NHC says Fay could near hurricane strength before weakening
In its 3 p.m. GMT update, the National Hurricane Center placed Fay about 430 miles southwest of the Azores, forecasting further strengthening and a possible approach to hurricane intensity overnight, followed by a turn southwest and a weakening trend beginning Monday.
“Additional strengthening is expected during the next day or so, and Fay could approach hurricane intensity tonight. A gradual weakening trend is expected to begin on Monday.”
