Kids in Foster homes have to invent new identities often to please new people in their lives. Especially those homes who are only in it for the money. It's a form of survival. Well intentioned people don't necessarily understand the needs of kids lost in the system. Once in, never really out.

Around the world, every young lad's first attempt at love. I recall years gone by how awkward I was to somehow get the words out

He was absolutely brilliant in that! I love that he's not conventionally handsome, which makes a character all the more believable for me.

Haven't actually seen this film but what really strikes me about this scene is the way his eyes shift the character in and out of contact with his object of desire, the actual person, as he looks at her, and his abstract object of longing, a yet-realised future, looking away into the distance.
