Asian tech stocks extend rally on chip gains, falling yields and oil

Regional semiconductor and growth stocks climb through late September as U.S. chipmakers drive the Nasdaq to record highs.

What to know

  • Asian chip and tech stocks rallied from mid to late September, tracking record-setting gains in U.S. semiconductor shares.
  • Declining U.S. Treasury yields (to 4.94%) and falling oil prices (to $103.77/barrel) eased pressure on growth stocks across the region.
  • Chipmakers in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong posted gains ranging from 1% to over 5%, with the Nasdaq 100 reaching its first record close since June.
  • Diplomatic hopes for progress in the Iran war provided additional sentiment support by reducing energy-price concerns.

“Asian technology and semiconductor stocks rose on Friday, tracking a rally in U.S. chip shares as a pullback in Treasury yields eased pressure on growth-sensitive equities, while a dip in oil prices also improved sentiment.”
