What to know
- IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi publicly cited seven undersea internet cables beneath the Strait of Hormuz and warned of unspecified new targets and weapons against the US.
- The statement follows an early-October warning from security council secretary Mohsen Rezaei that cables, data centers, and AI facilities could be struck in a renewed war, though he said they were not yet designated targets.
- Tensions trace to the February 28 US-Israel war with Iran, Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a US naval blockade, and a June US-Iran MOU on navigation whose implementation has stalled.
- Social media posts have amplified the remarks as a threat to global internet infrastructure, generating large engagement despite no confirmed attack on the cables.
Iran's statement is a serious, alarming threat to global internet infrastructure that is being underreported.

What they say they want is irrelevant because the goal is exactly the same as anyone else who wants nukes - nuclear deterrence. You seriously think they’ll accomplish this revolution with a few nukes? China has 600 and is the 2nd largest military in the world and still can’t take Taiwan. Russia has 5000+ nukes and can’t take over Ukraine. When…

You clearly don’t understand the fundamentals of who the Islamic Republic of Iran is. They have been highly open about their goals as an Islamic revolution that is intended to move beyond Iran, from day 1. Just look it up yourself. It isn’t a secret. -
Nobody said they don’t have a right. Of course they do they are sovereign. Except now when they need help the US is not helping. Iran is applying pressure on that weakness.
-
The claim that Iran attacks Gulf states because they host American bases is nonsense. Iran’s primary enemies are Arabs and Islam; the Gulf states have every right to sign defense agreements and maintain relations with the United States to counter Iran’s extremist, ideological, and terrorist-driven agenda.

100% correct. But I don’t care to connect to anything overseas. So won’t affect me any. If all lines were to be cut.
-
Most seem to be missing the point. Their entire objective is to kick the US and its bases out of the middle east. The message is as long as the middle east allows hosting US forces they’re gonna make life in the region a living hell.
-
You presume they are actually bluffing. You also presume war would benefit the US and its regional allies.
