Market commentator flags timing against recent capex guidance
Financial commentary account The Kobeissi Letter highlighted that the $95 billion financing plan comes just days after Meta said it would spend up to $145 billion in capex this year, framing the raise against that backdrop.

Nope, that is not how banks work. They hold your money and pay you interest that's less than what they make by lending it out, usually backed by hard assets. They make money at every step of the process. Investing in a start-up company offers no guarantee of a return, and it's common to lose all invested funds when the start-up fails. That's why…

Meta raises 2026 capex guidance and posts negative free cash flow
In its prior-week quarterly filing, Meta raised the low end of its 2026 capital-expenditure forecast to $135-145 billion and reported a $2.12 billion cash burn in Q3, its first negative free cash flow in more than a decade, alongside $64.60 billion in quarterly revenue that beat estimates.

"has held talks", "begun to develop plans".. in that article. That is not "now" or does not mean it will happen. Working for these hyperscalers, I've realized most of these projects don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I own over 500 shares of NVDA. I'm beginning to think they are becoming the Berkshire Hathaway of tech stocks. Last quarter, they reported a $7B increase from stock holdings in other companies.
-
Well how else can influencers make videos about circular financing for the "masses" without these types of headlines? Just don't think about or worry about how that other $90b somehow magically appears. It's that $5b from "partners/friends/tech-bros" that keeps the entire flywheel spinning along.
-
It doesn't matter if it's a good product, it's still not used enough for their current data centres. It isn't even a top 5 used AI. Meta spends so much money on things because it's embarrassed to be an ad company.
-
> Meta buys NVIDIA GPUs to deploy Muse agents and improve inference > Meta needs to raise $90b of equity to fund GPU purchase > NVIDIA invests $3b of capital into Meta's equity raise > Meta buys more NVIDIA GPUs to deploy Muse Agents and improve inference
-
the part people skip is the $60b atm on top of the $35b. an underwritten deal is a one time thing, but an atm lets them keep selling shares into the market for months, which can cap rallies. i'd watch the share count in the next couple 10-qs to see how fast they actually use it.

so like a “stars burn brightest right before they die” type thing? except they would only care about watching the shiny lights in the moment and not the fact that the star will fucking explode.

Automated alerting on my investments, side project scanning Google street view and the researching county records, flight monitoring, shopping. For me, it’s been pretty good
-
True. The underlying business of meta is indeed just as impressive maybe even more so. But the governance structure honestly sucks given how Zuckerberg is basically allowed to act without any sort of serious controls. Just think about how much money he set on fire with his metaverse idiocy. And I say that as a current shareholder in the company.
-
Yeah, and I think most of those are good buys as well. It's just you are paying for a monopoly on social media instead of a monopoly on search or online shopping Imo meta, Google, amzn are 3 pretty safe plays that make a bunch of money, have non stop growth going back a decade, and trade at fair valuations
-
True but its also not the only very impressive growth play in the Market just now. Hell you can buy NVDA at a sub 20 PE growing at an even faster rate per year. Or Amazon or Google if you want players in the compute space.
-
Funding AI expansion with a $95 billion equity raise shows how large these capex plans have become. I'd be curious whether investors end up judging it more on the return timeline of that spending than on the dilution itself.

Right? How do you confidently asset Meta knows what the fuck they're doing after they flushed billions on the Metaverse? Who's doing that? Pab_guy's just pointing out why a company would issue that much stock, not that they're confident Meta knows this will pay off. Conversely how do you confidently assess Meta doesn't know what they're doing?…
-
All those companies are racing eachother for stock offerings and IPO’s because they know being late will mean catching a falling knife Imagine your entire user base saying they're going to get a pack of cigarettes and then never log in again.
-
They're issuing shares because they need cash to stay in the race. That doesn't in any way suggest that it's going to be productively deployed, and if you think it's going to be harder to raise capital in the future you raise it now. The fact that they NEED capital, rather than relying on their massive (pre-AI) free cash flow should tell you that…
-
You borrow it knowing “there will be returns on this capital investment that are worth diluting the stock for”. Well Yeah , You are trying to get the loan. You tell them the former thing they ain't gonna give it to you...
