Met Police threatens mass arrests at Saturday's Palestine Action protest
Defend Our Juries plans a 400-strong rally outside the US Embassy demanding the ban be lifted; police warn organisers and attendees both face arrest.
What to know
- Met Police warns that anyone attending, organising or giving logistical support to Saturday's protest outside the US Embassy could be arrested under the Terrorism Act.
- Defend Our Juries says 400 people had signed up; a prior Liverpool protest saw 50 of 250+ attendees arrested.
- Palestine Action has been proscribed since June 2025, with the Court of Appeal upholding the ban in June 2026.
- Defend Our Juries and Green Party leader Zack Polanski argue the warning criminalises peaceful protest and support, especially for elderly or disabled participants.

Met Police reiterates arrest warning hours before protest
In a fresh statement ahead of Saturday's rally, the Met repeated that expressing support for Palestine Action remains an offence under the Terrorism Act following the June 2026 Court of Appeal ruling.
“Expressing support for the group is an offence under the Terrorism Act following its proscription in June 2025, a decision upheld by the Court of Appeal in June 2026.”

No such thing as a blank check just because you claim to have “rule of law”. Especially when people are explicitly protesting the incorrect application of this “rule of law”.

I agree that it doesn't feel like terrorism - but it definitely does fit a number of the criteria (not withstanding the sledgehammer attack). I think the official statement when they were proscribed is worth a read: https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2025-06-23/hcws729 Specifically, During Palestine Action’s…

Oh, I don't. There's a big Israeli bot push to dominate social media and public opinion. Going by the recent midterms in the US, it's not going so well..

Because Israel doesn't care about our protests as long as it doesn't threaten their material support. Protesting Israel wouldn't do anything, they already know most people are against them. What's important to them is that it doesn't translate to them losing support from the US and to an extent Europe.

And the arrests around the proscription of Palestine Acton have now topped 4,000; with over 300 today in London. Even as the Needy Disappointer doubles down on the proscription, the case heads back to Court this week, and Yvette Cooper's anti-democratic move continues to undermine claims the Labour Party supports of democracy. If protest is…

But you do. But the export licenses are secret as made clear by Bryant's response to Stainbank's question. Bryant said: We suspended export licences for Israel where these relate to items for use in military operations in Gaza. This includes licences for components for fighter aircraft, helicopters and drones, naval systems and targeting…

Fundamentally, the Establishment is trying to decide whether voters will hold their nose and ignore ‘vicars and grannies’ being arrested for terrorism for just holding a bit of paper protesting against genocide carried out by Israel against Palestinians…or whether we are on the cusp of mass civil unrest and the whole house of cards crumbling…

You don't think the government feels embarassed about the police arresting hundreds of pensioners every other week? These laws were designed to combat terrorists, not your nan down the road or your local retired vicar. Yvette Cooper is clearly embarrassed about it, and was visibly so at the Labour party conference when journalists asked her about…

"In September, when quizzed by LBC radio’s Andrew Marr about the “elderly people, vicars and grannies” who have been arrested for holding placards allegedly supporting Palestine Action, the foreign secretary, Ed Miliband, said: “I don’t think anyone’s intent was to have those people criminalised."" That's one of the drawbacks of knee-jerk…

What exactly is a march to "make energy prices cheaper" supposed to do? Everyone already universally agrees that cost of living should go down, and politicians make their best attempt to do so to appease everyone. You may as well go on a march to convince everyone that getting cancer is bad.

Some people still don't get it: This is no longer about a bunch of radicals who took direct action protest too far and forgot the "non violent" bit. This is about the right to protest: an age old cultural right that goes back to pre-Roman times in Britain. Many have died to defend that right.

UK Police are still arresting old people for holding little cardboard signs opposing genocide. So far they've taken more than 4,000 of these lawless pensioners off the streets. The old people face up to 14 years in prison under 'terrorism' laws. I'd hoped that Burnham might have overturned this waste of police resources, but no. Opposing genocide…
