Online commentary frames summit as Trump's belated China pivot
A Reddit comment on the coverage noted this will be Trump's first Quad leaders summit and argued he took a long time to recognize the grouping's value in managing China.
“He took a much much longer route to realizing the value of Quad in managing China, but I guess Nobel aspirations and great admiration for dictators (and field marshals) got in the way.”

This is a great comment. While I see where you’re coming from, but I think this is where realpolitik will trump (no puns intended) MAGA’s elitism. MAGA thought allies are too dependent on USA and hence will toe the line. Well, didn’t pan out the way they wanted MAGA thought they can create a G+2 with China to simplify coordination on global…

Without India on board, the Quad is useless anyways. They are the only nuclear armed country except the US in the group and the only nation in Asia that has the conventional military capacity to resist China meaningfully. The US has separate alliances with Japan and Australia so a Quad without India is duplication. India has had a very pro US…

I'm Singaporean so I know our Nusantara neighbors fairly well. For Indonesia, it's a matter of bringing self reliance in defence procurement rather than relying on imports. So they will buy defence equipment from anyone in the short term, including India, but they want to build their own defence industry in the next 5-10 years and hence they…

Which will be interesting in the recent development of Indonesia joining the Badr MoU with Pakistan.

India was more Soviet aligned than US aligned during the Cold War… And we didn’t not stab you in the back two years ago lol
-
Funny you say that, when it's the US that has repeatedly stabbed India in the back in 1971, 1999, 2025-26 while India has never done anything to cause harm to the US
-
India is not at our back. It’s on the other side of the world, not even an ocean in common.
-
If that were so then why do you need anyone else - US and Japan already have a treaty partnership. US forces are stationed in Japan. Why go out of your way to arm Australia with Nuclear submarines. Why need Philippines, India, or anyone else. Needless to say your point is not informed enough
-
India contributing to defending Taiwan squarely depends on the strategic treaty partnership, which doesn’t exist today. So your point on India contributing to defend Taiwan is moot, as India isn’t obliged to do so. Managing China is not so unidimensional, there are many more dimensions apart from Taiwan.

This is why US-Indian relations will continue to suffer Ultimately India will stab us in the back, and we all know it
