What to know
- Oracle filed to raise $20 billion: $10 billion in new common stock and $10 billion in bonds across six tranches maturing 2029-2046.
- Shares fell nearly 6% on the filing, extending a roughly 33% decline for the year, even after an 11% rally the prior Wednesday on CFO comments about free cash flow turning positive in fiscal 2028.
- Oracle carried $125.34 billion in notes payable and other borrowings as of August 31 against fiscal 2026 revenue of $67.36 billion, and has pledged to raise no more than $20 billion in additional AI financing through fiscal 2030.
- Investors remain focused on Oracle's AI spending because it lacks the revenue scale of cloud rivals Microsoft and Amazon and has significant exposure to OpenAI.

Surely Lawrence Ellison can afford $20B? Hasn't he spent that much lobbying politicians, buying media companies, acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign entity? Or he could liquidate his superyacht collection?

Oracle's core business is healthy as fuck. It can't default. It could get into a long period of low R&D since all profits would be directed to serve their debt and that could hurt their product line, but they'd definitely can't just vanish into thin air.

at the start of the pandemic when employees were confused and worried about their families larry emailed his entire company informing them that due to everything going on he was going to permanently move to his private island and "make it a better place with the locals" dude is scum and a colonizer at heart.

Unfortunately, what will really happen is that they will receive a massive bailout from Main Street. Just like in 2008 for the banks. The impact of AI hype failing at this point has become too big to fail in the eyes of "rugged" American capitalism.

Things I hope for:- Oracle defaulting on its debt commitments.- Anti trust action into Skydance forcing a breakup.- Larry forced to cover the difference by selling family silver.- Lanai going back into the hands of the people of Hawaii.Just for the laughs and for forcing me to bear with some of the worst applications of all time.

A company that is purely in Denial, even doubling down at the risk of toppling the whole financial system should be placed under the financial equivalent of arrest and its leadership actually arrested. They're obviously playing with fire and it's alarming that no one's in the administration is batting an eye.

the $20b cap is the line i'd keep an eye on. it caps new money but doesn't say how much of it is stock vs debt, and after the share sale this summer that mix matters a lot for existing holders. diluted share count in the next couple of 10-qs will tell the story.

It's still something they are just "saying". You didn't make a new point. Didn't know you could see the future. Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong, but only one person between the two of us is claiming a guarantee of a future outcome. If that is how you invest in stocks, blind faith gambling, at least admit it.

pretty much, that's the whole bet. prepayments only help while the customers keep paying
-
The financing mix is the part I'd watch, because customer prepayments and customer-supplied hardware shift much of the upfront burden onto the buyers, which only works as long as their own budgets hold. With capex still peaking for two more years, the swing from -$23.7B to $30B+ by fiscal 2029 rests heavily on those commitments staying intact, so…
-
It's a real threat. That is why they are capping CapEx. They don't have a choice. Nobody will lend to them anymore, their bond rating is crap, insurance is expensive, and they can't play funding games anymore.

I asked you a simple question and you are freezing. If you don’t understand the topic why leaving an expert opinion, it’s just bs. For those with slow cognitive abilities, 15x forward (considering price stays flat) is soon after the capex/fcf inflection point, not years after OCI transformation when capex is expected to consolidate. At this point…

$ORCL just laid out a pretty wild FY2029 FCF target of over $30B versus expectations just ~$6B. Also awesome to hear Oracle plans to raise no more than $20B in new debt and equity through FY2030 which directly addresses concerns about how it will fund its massive AI buildout.
