openSUSE releases Leap 16.1, folding Leap Micro into an Immutable Mode
The first minor update to Leap 16 merges openSUSE's immutable server line into the main distribution and ships alongside SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1.
What to know
- Leap 16.1 is the first minor release in the Leap 16 series, integrating the formerly separate Leap Micro immutable distribution as an optional Immutable Mode selectable in the Agama installer.
- Leap Micro will no longer be released separately; existing Leap Micro users can migrate using an experimental openSUSE Migration tool.
- The release ships the same day as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1, intended to close maintenance-update gaps between the community and enterprise distributions.
- Desktop and developer stack updates include KDE Plasma 6.6, LibreOffice 26.2, GIMP 3.2, Python 3.14, and PostgreSQL 18, while the kernel (6.12), systemd (257) and glibc (2.40) are unchanged from Leap 16.0.
