At least smart tv's have a meaningful use case. People want to watch a lot of movies and shows from the Internet, so it makes sense to build that capability into the tv. Yes, the bloat and adware sucks, but the core idea makes sense. With fridges though, I've never felt the need for any internet connectivity.

Granted this was just a bad software update and not an “EOL and thus ending support” situation. Still: I never hooked up our new smart fridge to the web, and I do not plan to. Two days ago while fixing our 7 year old Samsung washer (a 1 cent coin blocking the drain pump impeller) I read the user manual for the first time and found out you can install an app that connects with it and “smart things “.Not doing that !
