Canada and the EU are pursuing unprecedented ties as Trump warns of tariffs and possible trade restrictions.

How exactly would Eueopean "social" and "economic" issues impact Canada? What are these social and economic issues exactly that are relevant? Why do you think Canadian citizens should have a say in strengthening ties with some of their closest and oldest allies? At what point do you include them or don't include them? Do you think the Canadian…

"It is about reinforcing sovereignty. Why? So we can live our lives as we choose, our people can live their lives as they choose and have the full freedoms that people enjoy in the European Union and in Canada" So... Post secondary education is going to become free for Canadian students? No? Oh... Well, it's not really "as we choose" EU style so…

And who says Carney wants low skilled immigration? If Carney didn't want low skilled immigrants, he wouldn't be importing millions of them as we speak. Which is a decade-old policy of his party, that they ramped up to the gills in the last few years. Quality skilled immigrants never had any problems immigrating to Canada, not before 2015, not…

“Most people” “agreeing” with something doesn’t mean many don’t agree. They’re not mutually exclusive statements. I also put “most people” in quotes, because I researched these polls you’re referring to, and they land anywhere between 25-80% in agreement. However, these polls had anywhere from 1000-2500 participants, which is nowhere near…

Canada and the European Union give themselves a deadline of June 2027 to conclude negotiations to make Canada the first “associate member” of the bloc. The scale and substance of the agreement have yet to be determined, but Germany is already opposing the plan. Read more from @ euronews https:// flip.it/LqRLoE # Canada # Germany # EU

What would a middle power alliance achieve? The US has supplied ~40% of external resources to Ukraine (although on a run rate basis, that number has definitely dropped recently). Do we not welcome the US into that alliance anymore? If the middle power alliance doesn't like some US intervention (e.g. Iran, Venezuela) will they actively fight…

Why? This won't include anything like the Schengen or adopting the Euro, what is there for us to vote on? "Would you like to increase economic ties with Europe?" I'd also argue nothing about this was mentioned during the election, diversifying trade was a core part of his platform in 2025, associate member status would be part of that it deepends…

I take issue with the “alliance of values” as most of us re party to the 1948 Genocide Convention yet have done NOTHING to honour our legal obligations to protect and punish when a genocide is “happening or likely to happen.” These obligations were triggered long ago in 2024 with ICJ launching investigation and definitely since with IAGS, UN…

That's a bit of an over simplified way of putting it but yeah. At the end of the day we didn't decide to diversify our trade away from the US because trump got elected. We didn't the first time he was. We want to diversify our trade because America is not a trustworthy trade partner. It has very little to do with internal politics. I'm not a fan…

There's nothing to bargain for. It's just Carney putting on a show. Everything Carney wants to do in regards to the EU is either already happening or can include Canada on EU terms. Do you think the EU will not impose the Carbon Adjustment Mechanism on Canada because of its poor emissions record? Carney is misleading people by implying it might be…

The majority of people wanting something and it happening is the definition of democratic. Americans brains are so fried by media brainwashing. You can’t conceive of a world where 90% of the population want something - that it could never be achieved because of old texts and opaque institutional will. This bizzare learnt helpless branded into your…

can't speak for the other guy but most canadians currently prefer closer ties with europe in comparison to the not-so-united states both due to what's going on inside their borders and how albertan separatists have been apparently taking money from the republicans to fund their campaigning, which links support for the usa with support for albertan…

Municipal elections are not digital, they're fed into a machine yes, but the vote is still on paper. Referendums would still have to be on paper. That's a lot of paper for every decision that some internet cowboy seems to think is important to them but the rest of us want to just have the representative democracy that we already have do it's job.

As an old fart I would love the VISA stay limits to be removed. If I want to retire to portugal I don’t want to have to leave for 90 days every 90 days (90 days max per 180 day period). Same for europeans that want to retire in Canada. If we aren’t taking a job let us spend our retirement money and stay as long as we’d like.

From what I have heard/read. We are going to be able to get loans from European development banks that we currently are no able to because we are not a member. The loans can be used to build up mines and ports to sell minerals to European markets. Currently our infrastructure is geared towards shipping by rail.

yea exactly, GDPR is also very annoying I'm not sure why that was even created - maybe other people give a shit about their cookies but it's just made it more annoying surfing the web. Can't wait for all the bureaucracy you have to jump through starting a business etc.

Lmao I'm sorry the morons are downvoting you too. It's called World News, but the most ignorant and dim people of Reddit gather here. Lol it's my trolling reality check. Like no one was talking about the convoy and the morons still upvote nothing. Lol

So every other country that has joined or left the EU was okay to do it by nationwide vote, but Canadians are too stupid to do the same? You think a single politician should be allowed to dictate such a massive decision all on their own?
