Intel shares fell as much as 29%, their worst single-day drop since the 1970s, as the broader Philadelphia semiconductor index sank 7.2% and peers including AMD, SanDisk, ARM, Qualcomm and Marvell dropped around 10%; Intel cited a plant shutdown in Israel and continued PC-market softness.
“Intel has suffered a 29% share price drop in the past 24 hours after it has become clear people aren't buying PCs anymore due to the AI 'boom' making PCs too expensive.”

Intel shares are on track for their worst single-day drop since 1974 after earnings raised concerns over AI spending sustainability. The broader US tech sector is feeling the pressure as investors reassess AI-related valuations. #Stocks #SP500 🗞️ ft.com

Everyone wants a simple narrative that explains the drop.Sometimes there isn't one. Answering precisely why the price went down requires understanding the process, mindset, motivations, fears, and finances of every buyer and every seller everywhere. To this date, there is no consensus on the causes of the crashes of 1929, 1973-74, 1987, 2000-2002…

Intel's foundry revenue includes work for its own product groups. That isn't the same evidence as outside customers choosing its fabs. That distinction drives my bearish five-year INTC view from September. A PC recovery can help the product business without proving the foundry earns an adequate return. I'd change my view on outside foundry sales…

Why not work as before (on 3D XPoint) with Micron and try to pursue PIM (processing in memory) on DRAM? It doesn't go around the DRAM manufacturing constraint, but it helps them sell new PIM-DRAM coupled to Xeons. Right now, they have "pie in the sky" GPUs and nVidia has their boot on Intel's throat, while Xeons and let alone normal cpus are going…

Isn’t it crazy though, that in the whole entire world we have 2 companies that make consumer and server grade CPU’s, and 2 companies that make consumer and server grade GPU’s, and 1 of those companies is part of both groups? There are literally 3 companies in the world rn that own the most core 2 components of any modern computer, and nobody sees…

Coming from an era when S&P 100 companies having 3% single day stock swings would be front page news what's happening today is hard to comprehend. Intel losing $150B market value, Google $480B, Microsoft $360B earlier this year, SpaceX $400B, Nvidia having several $500B+ swings in either direction... People are barely blinking at trillion-dollar…

I's been a bad 3 weeks for sure. With U.S. midterms close by, that's also putting downward pressure as Big Tech is heavily invested into the current administration. have to wait and see...we haven't even reached correction territory yet on Nasdaq.

More about Intel. Reuters: Intel on course for worst day ever, triggers global chip rout https://www. reuters.com/business/intel-war ning-sparks-chip-rout-pc-weakness-clouds-turnaround-2026-10-30/ @ Reuters # intel # BigTech

The single biggest/best thing Intel could do is get back into memory. Their entire remaining business is now throttled on everyone else being able to supply memory, on top of whatever other competition they were already experiencing.

I state intervention into private corporations and granting corporate bailouts is basically the opposite of socialism, it is classic fascism. It's what the Nazis were up to in the 1930s. So they really only lied about the small government thing.

Can anyone give an explanation in layman's terms for those of us finance/economic illiterate why this is happening? The demand for compute for AI is increasing, why would a compute producer lose value?
-
I don't think AI is the bubble. The expectations around how quickly it'll make trillions of dollars might be. The internet survived the dot-com crash just fine. A lot of investors didn't. Wouldn't be surprised if AI follows a similar path.
-
I'm no economist or investor, but down 28% in a day seems insane for a company at this scale. And they didn't even perform badly, imagine what would happen if they missed their earnings projections.

Seems like an interesting time to buy in again. Data center revenue up nearly double and margins are obviously great. Doubt data center growth is going to stall much in the near term and foundry is doing better and better.
-
At the same time, you can't argue that everything in our society has similarly improved. There is still a long way to go in providing more diverse access to the wealth generating markets.
-
Take a step back big guy. These are great buying opportunities. Look at the charts. Try picking out the Covid crash on a 10-15-20 year chart. While you’re doom and gloom I’m buying.
-
People are desperately looking for signs here, but I just see Intel returning to historical levels. Intel is still up for the year.
-
Lol...forgot the market only goes up. False alarm people....Elon said he's building ICE detention centers on the moon, SpaceX is going to need another trillion dollar donation.
-
Can this turmoil be in part because investors wanting to take home some of their profits before the US midterm elections?

My work doubled refresh cycle then said actually, there won't be a cycle, after the doubled duration IT will work with you to see if you need a refresh :)
