Critics note OpenAI's own bought RAM sits unused in boxes

Commenters pointed out that much of the DRAM OpenAI has already purchased is sitting unbuilt-into-servers, undercutting Altman's 'maximum utilization' argument.
“Nearly all of the RAM that OpenAI has bought is sitting in boxes, unused. The servers it goes into have not been built.”

please support the needy and donate your ram to OpenAI https://www. tomshardware.com/tech-industry /data-centers/openai-ceo-says-its-quite-terrible-for-your-pc-to-have-ram-sam-altman-says-data-centers-offer-better-utilization

"I think we should shed the idea that AI is a technological artifact with political features [ ...] AI is an ideological project to shift authority and autonomy away from individuals, towards centralized structures of power." Ali Alkhatib, here:

I mean, it is going to data centers and not personal computers, because him and his peers have entered into multi-year contracts that corner the market. So, if this is actually the best use then presumably the price he’s driven the market up to will give a return on investment that reflects the utility of his use of it. I am skeptical that…

Ok, so *today* what Altman says is generally true. Now in the future, if you can find a model that runs on 8GB VRAM that is useful for production (other than a decision model), then I would assert conditions drastically change, and likely he would change his stance as well (because something else would be be true). Though, I highly, highly doubt…

These fucking assholes drive up the cost of so many basic things that are central to people's lives, and then claim that, because of the shortage and expense THEY CREATED, we should just let the oligarchs have it all and sharecrop from them in perpetuity. Fuck these people. Every one of them. https:// gizmodo.com/sam-altman-all-the…

What about water? Is it OK for us plebes to have a sip now and then?

> Also he has 2 kidneys and 2 lungs, while he could get by with just 1 of each, and there are people badly needing them.Is that supposed to be an example of hypocrisy? Or why did you specifically type that up in your comment? Regardless, are people required to not be hypocrites in any other way for it to be acceptable for them to say something…

Downvoting me doesn't help. Folks who have not used Sonnet 5.5 (High) Not Medium or Low have no idea what AI is capable of. I am myself shit scared. Sonnet 5.5 (High) which uses 3x more tokens than Sonnet 5.5 (Medium) is a beast, you tell something and it will even figure out some impact linked to your grand mother's grave cost and benefits as…

Nearly all of the RAM that OpenAI has bought is sitting in boxes, unused. The servers it goes into have not been built. The data centers for the servers have not been built and won't be for years if ever. If Sam Altman wants to improve the global utility function, he should stop hoarding things he can't use - including most of his $$$$$$$$$$!
-
But, DRAM is only limited at the moment because data centres keep buying it up!
-
Yeah: because he wants me to have to pay him rather than being able to run open models locally and, more broadly, he wants the control and power that removing consumers' ability to run local models would bring to him and his company. His solution is to return us all to an undemocratic model of computing that has been in decline since the 1970s.I…

Yeah, except the trump family moved to America from Germany, ran whore houses filled with American women, then used that money and political influence to buy tons of land that they got tax breaks on to get more money and start one of the largest cults in the world and take the most powerful seat in politics while forcing their ideology on people…

"OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says having RAM in personal computers is an inefficient use of the world’s limited DRAM supply, arguing it would be better allocated to data centers, per Tom’s Hardware" .... You should be poor and renting your whole life, in every area of your life, the owner class believes.

Why do I still have to hear about him? Why is he not in jail?

> By the same line of thinking, his SF home…Isn't the view that people having extra homes used 5% of the time a very well-known and common criticism, and there has even been legislation enacted in a number of places to discourage or penalize such homes?(For SF, it appears:- Tax rates for >1 homes are higher under the Homeowners' Exemption- There…

Old money’s a huge problem too, but at least they’re just trying to pilfer for as much money as possible. Tech bros are doing that while also trying to force as many people as possible into their own particular version of what they purport to be a utopia, with themselves at the top of the pyramid. Trump just wants to make money; that’s something…

A good comment to Altman's interview on YouTube where he says he wants all the RAM of the world for himself: "It's Terrible for Sam Altman to have all those Organs in his body when better people could utilize them more efficiently"
-
Billionaires: we need everything you have too.
-
The entire industry of Personal Computing is inefficient, given his definition.Like we have these billions of smartphones just sleeping all the time instead of running at 100% all the time. But the whole point of personal computing is that you can do whatever you want.It is the same old argument between centralization and decentralization. Yes…

Hes completely 100% correct in what be says tho and the context is obviously lost in the single statement. If you want to look purely from a ram utilisation/optimisation standpoint its definitely inefficient to have ram being used in person machines with 5% uptime. Its like cars are a terribly inefficient way to transport people. A bus could do…

Sam Altman has a point, technically. Centralizing computing resources in data centers would indeed improve utilization: https://www. tomshardware.com/tech-industry /data-centers/openai-ceo-says-its-quite-terrible-for-your-pc-to-have-ram-sam-altman-says-data-centers-offer-better-utilization And that’s where the tiny bit of good news ends. Because…

I'm absolutely advocating for someone to punch that sister-rapist in the face.

By the same line of thinking, his SF home has 6 bedrooms, it would be more efficient to transform it in a community housing, why is he hoarding all the bedrooms? He can't even physically be in more than one at a time. And that's just one of 3 he owns in SF alone. Also he has 2 kidneys and 2 lungs, while he could get by with just 1 of each, and…

Another ragebait post that convinietly ignores part of what he actualy said. And comment section is full of idiots, who did't listened what Altman actualy said, but that didn't stopped them jumping to conclusion and hallucinating comment. Warning for people, who have still at least half of the brain working: DO NOT FORM OPINIONS BASED ON SOCIAL…
