Prediction: If this actually happens, Trump does nothing. He won't respond to NATO Article 5 and he certainly won't help Taiwan. The big question is if Putin and Xi already know this because Trump told them.

This scenario would mean that the USA would be largely preoccupied in Asia and unable to fully engage in Europe, which is why it directly impacts NATO even though Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Australia etc. are not NATO members. Rutte is right to warn of this overstretch scenario.

The connection is weak though: Trump won't help Europe against Russia in case of NATO Article 5 anyway and the other NATO-states have low or none military possibilities to help Taiwan.

Last I checked Taiwan was not in the Atlantic or Mediterranean. This will be on Trumpy alone. And no, NATO has no relevance for Hormuz or any other shite as well.

Speculation but good to be prepared. Europe unlikely to help US in Taiwan. Just as likely that Xi will retake former Chinese lands in Manchuria which they regard as stolen from them by unfair treaties. A big war against the US would damage chinese exports and cause internal problems for Xi.
