   Manton Reece notes historical detail about iPhone 3GS video recording

   Manton Reece, discussing Gruber's review on Mastodon, adds that the iPhone 3GS was the first iPhone with video recording, a significant milestone he had personal experience with through his app Clipstart.

     I am not surprised! The first iPhone 18 Pro review I saw was from a famous YouTuber who made a 10+ minute video turning every negative into a positive. If someone as big as that person, with so much leverage, is afraid to say anything negative, imagine all the smaller creators!

     Zero benefit to this "manual" aperture control. How much difference, really, will their be to your precious depth of field while shooting with a pinhole camera? Eliminate this and drop the price of the phone $150.

   Gruber argues iPhone Duo has become Apple's true flagship device

   Gruber observes that the iPhone Duo received the anchor spot in Apple's announcement keynote and is dominating marketing efforts, including billboards and red carpet appearances, while the iPhone 18 Pro lacks the prominence historically expected of a flagship. He notes that unlike previous years, it is not "obviously clear" which iPhone is the flagship this generation.

   “But the 18 Pro debuted alongside the iPhone Duo. The Duo got the anchor spot in the announcement keynote. The Duo is getting the billboards.”
