Apparently they were able to do some things to trick AI to think that he was on the team and then used that as proof which is odd because if asking for proof then why accept AI response. The venn diagram of people that would by the AI proof and fall for this scam is a circle.

They just Google his name and the AI pops up that he plays for the 49ers because it's scraping from his social media. They don't click through to notice the only source is him. They're the sort of person who would use Wikipedia as a source for a paper and not check any of the citations.

Do we know what the scam actually was? Says in the article they used AI and other stuff. Wouldn’t be surprised if they posed as an actual player. Doesn’t sound like they were trying to convince people he was an actual player but posing as one that is on the roster.
