Gambling industry is deliberately preying on vulnerable young people through predatory marketing tactics.
-
“The bigger issue is preying on (primarily) young men and actively fleecing them out of grocery, rent, family-needs money. And like the tobacco industry, the gambling industry knows how to keep these folks addicted”

Individuals should respond by disengaging from professional sports and seeking alternatives.

Broader systemic greed and wealth extraction by billionaires and corporations are the root cause.

“Dragon-pile rich buy the game, jack up prices to see them, then pillage everyday folks with rigged gambling ads and pro shills. Now I don't watch football anymo'.”

Commenters call for regulatory action and systemic change
Discussion escalates to demands for betting site regulation, bans on gambling marketing, and recognition that the problem extends across all professional sports.
“It needs to be banned. The betting sites are also going after all of the young college age/20 something group. They are super damaging to our society and culture.”

You can’t watch sports anymore without the TV bribing you to gamble and drink. Men are EXPECTED to watch sports, but they can’t do it without being exposed to constant promotion of life-ruining addictions. Imagine getting your life back together and having to give up ESPN to avoid relapsing

I have noticed the commentators saying, "that was a blatant fowl, why wasn't that called?" wayyyyy more often now. Won't be long for ref's to start getting caught cheating, as well as players.

Sadly, same with Baseball. Their signature show Big Inning, their version of Red Zone, is sponsored by Polymarket!

Luckily I've never been a sports of any kind fan apart from the occasional interest in the Olympics when it comes around. But i do empathise, it's shitty when something one likes gets compromised in the name of the enshittification of absolutely everything everywhere all at once.

It's corporate, capitalist trash. Every bit of it. If you enjoy the sport, go watch & support your local community team. Much better value 👍

I'd happily go back to MOTD, Football Focus and an actual live premier league game on a Sunday afternoon with a few cup matches per season on TV Players could live on twenty grand a week and ticket prices wouldn't cost a mortgage

There is not a single football show that is not drowning in betting ads. The sport is completely owned and compromised. It is impossible to trust anything that happens in the sport

- Will gambling regulation in sports ever happen, or is the industry too integrated into league finances?
- What would a professional sports landscape look like without gambling integration and could it return to one?

I don't watch sport it is way too boring, but I agree, gambling adverts are everywhere! Gambling advertising needs to be stopped!

Betting apps are making bank on the desperation of the lower middle class. "Bet $5 and get $200 in additional bets". The get you hooked with "just a taste" and the dopamine does the rest. Just like heroin or cocaine. Soon they can't live without the rush of the "action". Fuck these ghouls.

league and owners have a monopoly and it’s getting more about commercial interests than athletic competition. Too many teams, too many games, seasons too long, not enough talent. This is like paying for an expensive watered down drink at a fancy bar and feeling underwhelmed and cheated when you go.

NOT watching TV sports has freed up my day to enjoy real activities, like enjoying nature, cooking or simply reading a good book. Every form of media has been invaded by advertisers.

Everyday folks like watching football games. Sooo. Dragon-pile rich buy the game, jack up prices to see them, then pillage everyday folks with rigged gambling ads and pro shills. Now I don't watch football anymo'. Anyone besides me see a pattern? Greedy rich always ruin it for the rest of us.

Because we have a failed casino owner for president.

Greed on top of greed. Teams, media outlets, betting sites. Working class kids, meanwhile, cannot connect with home teams.

And people won't care, they will still watch, and they will bet on the games- even if they become WWE style. #welcometo'merica We are an unserious country.

Last night, I just wanted to watch a football game. Period. Just football. I would put up with ads - I use that time to finish chores or have a pee. But last night - the Mannings totally dominated the game broadcast and even two actors were introduced and I have no idea why. So much bullshit!

Were talking about a sport where team coaches are perfectly happy to throw a game just to get a better seat at next years draft.... And that is seen as normal acceptable behavior. Its not even hidden. Now every player, every coach, every official knows they can rake in a bunch of untraceable money.
