Prime Video cancels 'Ride or Die' after one season despite strong performance
Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer's action-comedy series is being shopped to other networks by Paramount Television.
What to know
- Prime Video canceled "Ride or Die" after one season despite the show earning positive reviews and topping the service's top 10 rankings.
- Paramount Television is now shopping the series to other networks for a potential second season.
- Viewers speculate the cancellation reflects either Prime Video's poor marketing of the show or demands for higher pay from its high-profile cast members.
The cancellation reflects casting budget disputes with high-profile actors demanding renegotiation after success.

“given Hannah makes about 150k per episode for Lasso, and Olivia Spencer is known to have quite the agent as she got a 500% pay raise during a public pay spat , this answer is very likely budget/renegotiations for season 2.”

Streaming services now cancel shows that don't achieve massive cultural penetration and meme status, regardless of viewership numbers.

“I don't know how I would watch it when I've never heard about it until now. Prime is awful at marketing new shows. I would've given it a shot just to see Hannah Waddingham in something new besides Ted Lasso.”

Viewers cite marketing failures and casting costs as reasons for cancellation

I'm convinced the new rule is "if a show doesn't become big enough that it's being talked about everywhere, has memes made about it, people clipping moments from the show to make gifs for talking to thier friends, etc" it gets cancelled now. This show was on Amazon's top 10 for weeks. But it didn't enter the zeitgeist like that so it gets scrapped.

Except then they hit the subscriber plateau and that's when prices started going up and ads got shoved into the programs. And also when they cut back on producing new shows.

They better get better writers for Reacher pronto as season 4 was woeful (almost as bad as season 2).
