What to know
- Carney's summit courted hundreds of global investors managing roughly $120 trillion in assets, seeking C$1 trillion (about $720 billion) in investment over five years to reduce Canada's dependence on the US amid the trade war.
- Announcements included opening major airports to private investment, a corporate tax 'mega deduction,' a sovereign internet network, and potential EU visa-rule talks.
- Critics, including the NDP, protesters and left-leaning commentators, characterize the summit as a privatization push that hands public infrastructure to foreign financiers without guaranteed public benefit.
- Former PM Stephen Harper's closing endorsement of Carney's US trade-talk walkout drew both praise from business circles and derision from critics who saw a Liberal government leaning on a Conservative figure.

I share that disagreement. It’s not productive investment. It’s a shadow bailout to keep the housing market up. I think all politicians have a PTSD with deleveraging, they want to keep it from happening, but it’s a natural thing and should be part of the whole stability thing.

I get the sense you have a immensely biased view of the world... I don't recall Carney being "supportive of Trump" on any issue - if Canada supported the US on Iran (this is hardly an invasion), why aren't our troops there?

I'm not averse to privatization in some circumstances. If the private alternative exists and had significant enough competition the government doesn't need to be involved. Absolutely I'm Canadian, and it's hard to believe anyone who is could think he did the country any good.
